SPECIAL FRAGRANCE

As a reminder, she gave to me
A small bottle of perfume.
Her favorite fragrance,
And now it seems, it’s also mine.

Some special elixir,
When mixed with the odor of Champagne,
On her breath,
Enveloping our kisses.

And, also, on her neck,
To be nibbled out,
Dripping about,
And running,
Slowly falling,
Caressing her skin,
As it flows in tiny riverlets.

Mixed with our essence,
As we perspire,
Together.

Fervently, yet softly
Touching,
In our Lover’s embrace.

A fragrance.
Reminding us,
Forever,
Of our special time and place.

MY T-SHIRT

It’s such a normal thing
Yet my vision focused there
T’was the T-shirt she wore
Layin’ ‘cross my chair.

She used to pull it on,
Such a normal act.
Then with a yawn and sigh,
Ask me to scratch her back.

Crawling between the sheets
She’d snuggle ‘gainst my chest
Finally getting comfy
For her nightly rest.

But now it just lays there
With no life of its own,
Though the scent of her perfume
Still somehow lingers on.

The silence of this lonely place
Fills me with gloom.
For without her here,
It’s just an empty room!

TEARS OF LOVERS

I see the raindrops falling
From a gray and leaden sky.
They seem like teardrops falling
From some hidden Celestial eye.

I wonder if they’re all the tears
Of lovers who could have been.
Yet walked away in the days of time
Into the years of might have been.

And how that you and I fit in,
Into all this Galactic roar.
"Cause somehow we never were,
Yet still we might have been.

Why did we ever have to meet
And become two never weres?
It seems an earthly and mortal sin
To leave behind all we might have been.

THE SMILING LIE

This morning I spied on you,
And tried to turn away
Before you saw that I knew.

The tiny tear slid silently from your eye.
And, as it ran down your cheek,
My resolve left me and I, too, became weak.

We’ve been together now for ten days,
Learning each other’s secret ways,
And, now we part, for the first time, as lovers.

I thought I’d leave and perhaps deceive
You, my love, with a smile.
But you couldn’t lie and now neither can I.

As I turn away from you
Another tear glides slowly down.
This time from my eye.

THE OLDER WOMAN

I’d only dated younger women
Or now so it seems
In my endless search
For the mate of my dreams.

I’d looked around
Yet never had found
The one totally right
For me.

The older ladies
Had always been there
Yet small chance had they
That I might care.

Then one day I spied
One who was so fair
Appearing as it were
From out of thin air.

She’d been a friend
For over a year
Yet no older woman
Would I let draw near.

Many tiny wrinkles framed her lips
And surrounded her eyes,
Those footprints of age
I’d learned to fear and despise.

But finally one day
It became so clear
But only because she
Allowed me,
To linger near.

The wrinkles were the echoes
Of hundreds of laughs
The tracks of thousands of smiles
Not the gradual erosion
Caused by Life’s harsh miles.

Each time she laughs
Her smiles these tiny lines erase
As a youthful joy
Beams from her face.

One instant I see a girl of two
The next a young maiden comes peeking through
As she peers out of now youthful eyes
I see the youthful soul I didn’t recognize.

She’s many ladies all packaged as one
And only I suppose
Because of all the years she’s lived
Does she have so much to offer and give.

She’s never flustered and ever so neat
Not too thin, yet still quite petite.
How did someone so clever, yet sweet,
And this older man ever happen to meet?
